Ship submissions to be included into the game are open to any and all contributors, however we do have some additional guidelines to follow while mapping. Adhering to these guidelines will ensure your ship passes inspection and gets approved to be added to an in-game shipyard to be purchased by players. The guidelines are split into three (3) major sections: Rules, Guidelines, and Suggestions. Rules must always be followed, and any ship submission that does not follow these will most likely be rejected or at the very least, have changes requested to them before they will be further reviewed. Guidelines are things that are generally required of ships, but certain exceptions can be made if the ship's theme or design calls for them. And Suggestions are just best design practices that you should keep in mind while decorating your ship, but aren't necessarily disqualifying.

Rules

These need to be adhered to for every ship submitted, no exceptions.

  1. Do not place loose weaponry (Use prefilled gun safes instead).
  2. Ensure that your ship has, at the very least, Atmos waste piping system (generators all output co2)
  3. Color your distribution and waste Atmos pipes (2 different colors).
  4. Do not place diagonal walls directly adjacent to each other in cardinal directions.
  5. Your design must be decorated.
  6. Your design must include:
    • A fax machine.
    • A records console.
    • A warp point (ship).
    • A late join spawn point.
  7. Use two stage airlocks (docking door + red airlocks for example).
  8. Put tiny fans under your exterior doors.
  9. Thrusters must be accessible (in the event of EMP attacks or upgrading)
  10. Do not place generators that do not consume fuel (does not apply to solars).
  11. Your wiring must be logical and minimal (refer to the wiring section for examples, once it is written).
  12. Place atmos tiles in atmos chambers.
  13. Run “variantize” and “fixgridatmos” commands.
  14. Save your design as a grid, not as a map.
  15. The only things you may mount on top of windows are neon bar signs, shutters, and blast doors (sec only).
  16. Do not write your character's name on your ship (Shipyard branding is acceptable).
  17. Do not map gas miners.
  18. Expeditions ships must utilize a high power source and have a minimum price of $50,000 spesos.

Guidelines

The following are generally accepted as required, but may occasionally be altered if the ship design/theme calls for it. Be prepared to justify breaking any of these guidelines in your ship review PR.

  1. Do not use custom filled lockers.
  2. Decorate your ships with colors that indicate department or function.
  3. Use cool colors for distribution pipes and warm colors for waste pipes.
  4. Do not overdo lighting.
  5. Place Grilles under windows.
  6. Include defib and fire extinguisher cabinets.
  7. Do not point thrusters at walls or other thrusters (try to make thruster direction make some sort of sense).

Suggestions:

  1. Place glass floor under exterior diagonal walls.
  2. Put plating under windows.
  3. Larger ships should have linked up firelocks and air alarms
  4. Before submitting your design, you might want to purchase the ship and walk around it as a player. Flaws can be easier to notice this way, especially problems with consoles that you wouldn't see while editing the map.

These guidelines are subject to change as the game and community evolves, and more new shiny features get added (like guns pew pew).
